The Liar: Haunted Issue (Capilano University’s Literary Anthology)

The Liar is Capilano University’s annual literary anthology. The theme of the 2026 edition is “Haunted Issue,” featuring works of poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction.

Vansh Malhotra’s poem, “prescription drugs,” appears on page 23. The poem explores antipsychotic medication and anxiety, juxtaposing psychological distress with imagery drawn from fairy tales and cartoons to create a childlike, whimsical, and surreal tone. Through the image of a “playground of slugs,” the poem transforms the uneasy, visceral sensation of anxiety in the stomach into something strange and imaginative, blending discomfort with playfulness.
