Castles Under Siege
Gabrielle Matthews is a London, England event planner. Her current project, a charity fund-raiser in Northumberland, is disrupted by the mysterious pull-out of a major sponsor. Friend and co-worker Sarah calls Gabrielle in a panic to get her to come and talk the sponsor into staying on board. When Gabrielle arrives, the situation becomes deadly serious when she wakes up in a hotel room beside the sponsor’s body…her fingers wrapped around the knife that killed him. Gabrielle’s brother Sam, a Scotland Yard detective, comes to help when she is arrested, accompanied by private investigator Riley Morgan.
Riley and Gabrielle have already felt sparks but Riley is close to danger and death as a PI and hasn’t allowed himself to think about a relationship with her because of the risks of his job. But he is soon helping her now that she is a suspect in a murder.
When Gabrielle is released on bail she and Riley start looking into anyone who might have wanted the sponsor dead and to discover new clues to clear her.
Passion flares as Gabrielle tries to hold the event together and Riley uncovers more and more pieces of information that point to another suspect. As he gets closer to finding out who it is, the danger to Gabrielle increases.
Amid a live chess game at a medieval castle, with knights on real horseback and a fashion show with a twist, the murderer is revealed as someone who has become increasingly unhinged with the emotional fallout over an unrequited love affair with the murder victim and is increasingly jealous of Gabrielle’s success.
Gabrielle and Riley have to not only stay alive but somehow find a way to make a relationship in the middle of danger work.
