‘Along Came an Aardvark’ is a picture book for preschoolers. Sam is a dictionary languishing on a library shelf. He is full of words from A-Z but no one ever looks at him. He sets out to change that by using one of his words at Library Storytime . It’s a tale of order, chaos, and the magical power of one well-placed word.

The story is playful and intended for the very young but has an ‘inner bigness’. It celebrates early  literacy programs, Library Story times, and the Oxford Dictionary.

It includes information about the creation of the first English dictionaries and has activities for parents and educators to do with children. Sprinkled throughout are images and phrases from nursery rhymes The end papers are dictionary pages with nursery rhyme words and rhymes.
